How to Create Customer Tariffs

Customer Tariffs are the rates at which the system sells the VoIP services. Customer tariffs are assigned to subscription plans – the tariff gives the value, while the subscription plan gives the currency in which the customers will be charged. Users can upload and edit customer rate tables using this functionality.

1. Create Tariffs

Rating and Billing > Tariffs > Add Tariff

You are required to enter a tariff name – this is how the tariff will be displayed everywhere in the system.

Please check the “Active” field if the tariff will be used – uncheck it if the tariff is inactive.

Click the submit button when ready to move forward to the next step.

2. Add Rates in Tariffs

Rates are the charges you bill your customers for their usage.

There are four ways to add rates in the system:

  • manually through the user interface
  • upload from a file
  • using already created routing tariff
  • using already created rating and billing tariff

Rating and Billing > Tariffs > View Rates > Add rate

You can add manually the rates in the system from here.

The destination is the name of the country (free text, e.g. UK – London).

The prefix is the E164 compliant area code (country code or country + area code, e.g. “3592”).

The initial interval is the duration of the first billing interval (in seconds, e.g. “60”).

The initial interval minute rate is the per-minute rate during the first billing interval (decimal number, e.g. 0.1250).

The increment interval is the duration of each sequential increment interval (in seconds, e.g. “30”).

The increment interval minute rate is the per-minute rate during each sequential increment interval (decimal number, e.g. 0.0950).

The connect fee is a one-time charge applied at call connect (decimal number, e.g. 0.0500).

The disconnect surcharge is a one-time charge applied at call disconnect (percent of total call charge, e.g. 20).

The day of week is a comma-separated list of the days for which the rate is valid (number, 0=Sunday, 6=Saturday, e.g. “1,2,3,4,5”; default value represents all days of week).

Start Time is the time of day when the rate takes effect (time in 24-hour format, e.g. 09:00; default start time is 00:00).

End Time is the time of day when the rate expires (time in 24-hour format, e.g. 21:00; default end time is 24:00).

Start date is the date when the rate takes effect (format is MM/DD/YYYY, e.g. 08/26/2011; default start date is current date).

End Date is the date when the rate expires (format is MM/DD/YYYY, e.g. 08/26/2021; default end date is ten years after current date).

Please note that after you press the “Submit” button the rate is added into the system. After adding all rates, in order to activate them you should press the “Submit” button in the provision rates menu.

When you go to the “Provision Rates” menu a message will appear showing you whether there are items that need to be provisioned.

Rating and Billing > Tariffs > Selected Tariff > Manage Rates

Automatically rates can be added to Tariffs using Manage Routes menu.

You have three options here: upload rates, use billing tariff, and use routing tariff.

Upload Rates from a file

With “Upload Rates” the user can upload rates from an already prepared .csv file.

Browse to select the file which will be uploaded. Select “Delete All Existing” if you want to delete all current rates and replace everything with the new ones. Select “Append to Existing” to add only the new area codes.

Please note that the system allows the same code to be present more than once – the reason is that one code may have different rates during different time of the day.

If you want to change the rates of existing area codes you can export the full .csv file, change the rates that need to be updated, and upload the .csv with marked “Delete All Existing”.

Manage Rates using Billing Tariff or Routing Tariff

This functionality allows you to add rates using the rates from a routing or billing tariff – thus you can link the new tariff to an already existing one in the system. You can also filter this tariff by destination group.

The user can choose the system to add automatically percentage markup over the selected tariff rates from the linked tariff. With the markup option the user can easily create customer tariffs bases on the existing carrier tariffs. For example the new customer tariff can contain only USA codes and rates from the linked tariff. This way when you update the main tariff you can automatically update the new tariff using the “Synch Rates” button.

Please note that in the Tariffs grid there is a flag if the rates are not synchronized.

Rating and Billing -> Tariffs -> Export rates

You can export all customer rates in a .csv file from here.

Please note that when you want to change the rates of existing area codes you can  download the full csv file, change the rates that need to be updated, and upload the csv with marked “Delete All Existing”.

Rates can be updated or deleted manually as well, but then one rate is managed at a time.
